New clothes, toy guns, jalebis, popcorn, lighted streets, getting high on booze, dancing like crazy, passed out people on the streets, Adivasi folk dancers, a lot of police, balloons……

Durga Puja is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates worship of the Hindu goddess Durga. The festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the evil demon Mahisasura. Along with a few other Indian states where it is widely celebrated, in Assam too it is a five day annual holiday.
